What
Are We?![]() William Prince of Orange The first Orange Association was founded in Exeter Cathedral in 1688 shortly after the arrival of William, Prince of Orange, in Devon from Holland. William had been invited by leading Englishmen to help restore Parliamentary democracy and to prevent King James II from imposing universal Catholism on the people of Britain. What do we stand for? The Orange Order remains resolute in it's support of the freedoms we enjoy that were established by the Glorious Revolution. The Orange Order is unswervingly committed to the Promotion of: - The Protestant Christian Faith - The Monarchy in Canada - Civil and Religious Liberty for all Canadians and special Privileges for none Our civil and religious liberties in Canada have been challenged over the centuries and continue to be challenged today. World wars and terrorism have failed to defeat our national institutions and our way of life. Our hard won liberties have been maintained since the Glorious revolution and this legacy must be passed to future generations Who can join the Orange Institution? we welcome into our Institution those who believe they can conform to the Qualifications of an Orangemen. Members within our ranks are drawn from different nationalities and walks of life. We belong to various denominations of the Protestant faith including, among others, Anglicans, Presbyterians, Methodists, United and Baptists. Even though we are inter-denominational protestant, we are joined together in our protestant fraternity Qualifications for Membership An Orangemen should be a Protestant in reality and truth, not merely by profession and education. He should be distinguished by sincere love and veneration and love for his Almighty Creator, have a steadfast faith in the Savior of the world, the only Mediator between God and man. An Orangemen should have a humble reliance on the guidance and purifying power of the Holy Spirit and preoccupy himself with the constant practice of truth, justice, brotherly kindness, charity, loyalty and obedience to the laws He should be wise and prudent, honest and temperate, gentle and compassionate, kind and courteous and cultivate the society of the good while avoiding the society of the evil He should honour and study the Holy scriptures, making them the rule of his belief and life. He should uphold and defend the Protestant faith by all legitimate means and oppose the erroneous and dangerous doctrines of any body of men that seek to deprive us of our religious and political liberties An Orangeman should observe the Sabbath Day, regularly attend public worship and abstain from profane and indecent language respecting the Lord In short, the Glory of God, the love of man, the honour of his Protestant Sovereign and the good of his country should be the principles and motives guiding an Orangeman's life and conduct. | Structure
of the Orange Order The Orange Order is an international fraternity. Orange Lodges are found in Canada, the United States, Ireland, England, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, Ghana and Togo The National Orange Lodge of each country is sovereign, but such sovereignty is not all encompassing. The Imperial Grand Orange Council of the World is the supreme and final authority for the entire Orange Organization. The Imperial Council elects a President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Imperial Grand Secretary. The Imperial Council also elects an Imperial Grand Master and his function is confined to that of a goodwill ambassador, but his position is still of tremendous importance within the Orange world. Each Country within the Orange Order has a national lodge and its Executive Officers administer the affairs of the Country Grand Lodge between sessions. All lodges within respective countries are under the administration of that country's national lodge. In Canada we also have Provincial Grand Lodges and their Executive Officers administer the affairs of all lodges within each respective Province(s). Within each Province we have County Lodges (some Provinces have District Lodges) and the last level is the local Primary Lodge. The Primary Lodge is the foundation of the entire Orange Order. |
